Hints

The Outstanding Artist Award from the Federal Ministry for Education, the Arts and Culture replaces a number of sponsorship and recognition prizes as well as grants, some of which were awarded by this ministry in a different form until 2009. Some of these prizes had existed under different names for decades. The prize in the music category, for example, was awarded as the State Prize for Music from 1950 to 1970 , and then as the Austrian Music Prize . Since 2010, the prize in the literature category has replaced the Austrian Promotion Prize for Literature , which has been awarded since 1950 and which Thomas Bernhard received in 1967 and called the “Small Austrian State Prize”.

After the award of the Hans Koller Prize was put on hold in April 2010 due to a lack of funding , the funding of outstanding Austrian jazz musicians was also transferred to the Outstanding Artist Awards.

In the Current Annual Topics category of the Outstanding Artist Awards, three prizes have been awarded annually since 2010 (in the categories of women's culture, interdisciplinarity , intercultural dialogue ).
