Ove Svenson

Ove Carl Wilhelm Svenson (born February 2, 1880 in Jönköping , Sweden , † 1976 in Denmark ) was a Swedish - Danish painter and lithographer .

Life

Svenson was born the son of the architect Gustaf Svenson and his Danish wife Lydia Bille. He was the grandson of the marine painter Carl Bille . He moved to Denmark at an early age, where he lived until his death. Svenson remained unmarried.

Svenson was instructed in lithography by the book printer Jens Christian Cato and received in-depth training in book and stone printing in Farvergade in Copenhagen, which had specialists in color printing since the 16th century. 1908–1909 he studied painting with Niels Vinding Dorph and his wife Bertha Dorph .

Study trips took him to Germany (1908), France (Paris 1910, 1913, 1926) and Italy (1912). 1910–1911 he received the Christen Schillerup Købke Scholarship and in 1911 the Raben Levetzau Scholarship.

Svenson was particularly dedicated to architectural painting, and his lithographs were traded internationally. He was a recognized watercolorist and painter of medium format oil paintings . Svenson also sold his works to the royal court , including Alexandrine , Christian X's wife . From 1908 he exhibited at the Royal Danish Art Academy at Charlottenborg Palace , in 1909 at the national exhibition in Aarhus , in 1912 and 1918 at the extensive exhibitions of Danish graphics and in 1912 at the show of modern Danish artists in Brighton .

While in the first half of the 20th century he worked more in the style of impressionism and realism , after the Second World War he turned to more expressive , flat forms of expression.
