The Over Water is a lake in the Lake District , Cumbria , England . The Over Water is a natural lake that was further dammed in the 1920s to provide water to Wigton .
The lake is part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The lake has a medium nutrient content. It is of particular biodiversity for such a small mountain lake. The lake itself is owned by the National Trust , while the surrounding land is privately owned.
The unnamed drain of the Little Tarn and several other unnamed smaller bodies of water feed the Over Water. Its outflow leaves it to the northeast and flows a little downwards from the left into the River Ellen , which itself feeds the Chapelhouse Reservoir shortly afterwards in the same direction .
