Ovo maltine
Ovo Maltine (* 16th April 1966 in computing at the Ahr as Christoph Josten , † 8. February 2005 in Berlin ) was a German political and cabaret - fag , but especially AIDS activist, among others, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence .
Life
"Ovo" (named after the Swiss beverage powder " Ovomaltine " ) became known as a member of the Tunten ensemble Les Tuxx and through his participation in documentaries and films by Rosa von Praunheim , especially at the side of Tima the Divine , BeV StroganoV and Ichgola Androgynous in the 2001 documentary Tunten don't lie . To avoid discussions and to set an example, he liked to call himself “the Ovo”. So the question of whether he feels like “he” or “she” was superfluous.
Events: "Ins Theater gegen AIDS" - big spender berlin eV - benefit for a hospice ( Volksbühne Berlin , 1994), "Qwir" ( queer erotic party, 1995), N8 sisters with BeV StroganoV (cabaret in the Red Salon, Volksbühne Berlin, 1995), supporting program “100 years of gay courage” (exhibition Akademie der Künste Berlin, 1997), OSPI-Cooking (in Café PositHIV, 1999), Goldmund-Lounge with Tima the Divine (Pfefferberg, 2001) - for the conclusion they created their own CD with 26 artists who were their guests in 9 months. Title of the OMTG production: "The birth"
Ovo lived on Erdmannstrasse in Berlin-Schöneberg . For the 1998 federal election he ran as a direct candidate for his constituency of Kreuzberg-Schöneberg and received 534 votes. For legal reasons he had to use his real name. The slogan was: The Ovo gets a job in Bonn - because we are electing Christoph Josten!
death
Ovo Maltine died on February 8, 2005 in the Auguste-Viktoria-Krankenhaus (AVK) Berlin of a malignant lymph gland tumor in connection with an HIV infection at the age of 38. He was buried on March 4, 2005 in the Old St. Matthew Cemetery at Großgörschenstrasse 12 in a historic grave that he had reserved as a sponsor in 2003 and taken over for care. The slate tombstone is a find from the parents' garden, the red pebble path is designed in the form of a "red ribbon". The film editing of his TV appearances, which he wanted while still in the hospital, was made for the funeral of Michael Brynntrup and Ludger Wekenborg. The film "Das Ovo" was shown at the 2006 Berlinale. Over 80 people came to the “Kreuz & Queer” tour on the 10th anniversary of his death and Ovo is still often mentioned in the media.
