Owen Casey (born October 22, 1969 in Dublin ) is a retired Irish tennis player .

Career

Casey was never able to assert himself at a higher professional level such as the ATP Challenger Tour , even though he won a doubles title in 1992. He also never qualified for Grand Slam tournaments .

However, he took part in three Olympic Games: 1988 in Seoul , 1992 in Barcelona and 1996 in Atlanta . In 1988 he entered the doubles competition with Eoin Collins . In the opening round they were defeated by the Israelis Amos Mansdorf and Gilad Bloom in four sets. In 1992 he appeared again with Collins in doubles, where they won the first round against the Mexicans Leonardo Lavalle and Fernando Maciel . In the round of 16 against the Swiss Jakob Hlasek and Marc Rosset , however, they had no chance in three sets. In the singles Casey suffered a straight defeat against the Swede Magnus Gustafsson in the first round . In 1996 in Atlanta, Casey made his last Olympic appearance alongside Scott Barron in doubles. However , Casey and Barron clearly had to admit defeat in two sets against Canadians Grant Connell and Daniel Nestor .

Casey played a total of 26 games for the Irish Davis Cup team between 1988 and 2002 . Both his individual balance of 21: 9 and his double balance of 12: 7 are positive.
