Owen Gleiberman

Owen Gleiberman (born February 24, 1959 in Lausanne ) is an American film critic who has been chief film critic for Variety since May 2016 , a position he shares with Peter Debruge .

Life

Owen Gleiberman was born in Lausanne , where he spent the first three years of his life. His father had moved to Switzerland from the USA to complete a medical degree there. He later grew up in Ann Arbor , Michigan and is a graduate of the University of Michigan . From 1981 to 1989 he worked at The Phoenix , from 1990 to 2014 for Entertainment Weekly . Gleiberman has been chief film critic for Variety since May 2016 , a position he shares with Peter Debruge .

Gleiberman is a member of the New York Film Critics Circle and the National Society of Film Critics .

Gleiberman published his autobiography, Movie Freak: My Life Watching Movies , on Hachette Books.
