Oxenford is a suburb of the Gold Coast city in Queensland , Australia . It is about eight miles from Southport . As of the 2016 census, Oxenford had 11,842 residents. The east boundaries of the suburb form the Coomera River and Pacific Motorway . In the west, the Coomera River borders the suburb, which can be crossed on the Coomera River Causeway .
Surname
The suburb was named after William Oxenford, who settled on the Coomera River in 1869 and built a farm there. In 1879 he was a member of the first council of Coomera.
history
The South Coast Railway ran from 1889 with a stop in Oxenford between Beenleigh and Southport. There was also a ferry across the Coomera River. The Oxenford Hotel was on the south bank.
