Ozan Ceyhun (born October 10, 1960 in Adana , Turkey ) is a politician and diplomat of Turkish origin who worked partly in Germany and partly in Turkey. He was an SPD - MEP , member of the interior committee in the European Parliament , coordinator of the SPD group for the interior committee, deputy member of the budget committee and member of the mixed parliamentary delegation EU-Turkey. Most recently he worked in the Representation of the State of Hesse at the European Union , after which he switched to the private sector.

In February 2020, Ceyhun was appointed Turkish ambassador to Austria.

career

Ceyhun's father is the Turkish writer Ceyhun Demirtaş .

Ceyhun grew up in Istanbul and graduated from the Bosporus High School in 1979. He then studied German philology at Hacettepe University in Ankara until the military coup in 1980 . In January 1981 he emigrated to Austria , in October 1982 to Germany, where he trained as a state-approved educator.

Among other things, his move to the SPD in 2000, after having been a member of the Greens from 1986 to 2000, made him known , as their expert on migration and asylum policy, as an employee of the Bundestag group of Bündnis 90 from 1990 to 1992. From 1992 to 1998 he worked initially as a consultant and later as head of department in the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs, from 1993 to 2000 he was a member of the district council of the Groß-Gerau district . He has been deputy chairman of the Intercultural Council in Germany since 1997. From 1998 to 2000 he was a member of the European Parliament for the Greens, from 2000 to 2004 for the SPD. In 2000, Ozan Ceyhun published a publication on Islamism in Europe under the title Politics in the Name of Allah .

Furthermore, Ceyhun works as a consultant for the Turkish party AKP , u. a. for the former European Minister Egemen Bağış . He is running for the AKP in the 2015 parliamentary elections in Turkey in a constituency of Izmir. He criticized Turkish television the party leader of the Greens, Cem Özdemir , and described the German President Joachim Gauck due to its controversial in Turkey speech as "lay" ( toy ), who with his erdogankritischen speech "cheap heroism" ( ucuz kahramanlık ) run . On the occasion of the election for the 25th Grand National Assembly of Turkey on June 7, 2015 , Ozan Ceyhun tweeted two nationalist tweets to his followers, according to a report by former member of the Bundestag Memet Kiliç ( Bündnis90 / Die Grünen ) : “With these opposition parties (...) can one only becomes a servant and slave of Israel, the USA and Germany ”, and:“ Today is the day on which we as a nation give an answer to the opposition parties who are doing common cause with the Knights Templar. Today is the day when the AKP is to be elected for an honorable and independent Turkey ”.
