Nuremberg University of Education

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nuremberg University of Education existed in Nuremberg from 1958 to 1972 to train primary and secondary school teachers.

In 1951/54 the state of Bavaria committed itself to an academization of teacher training. The institutions spread across Schwabach , Erlangen and Neuendettelsau were closed and concentrated as the “Institute for Teacher Education” in Nuremberg. In 1958 a college of education was established , which was formally affiliated to the University of Erlangen and for the first time was not denominated. Full integration into the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg as an educational faculty was completed in 1972. A well-known teacher was Rainer Rabenstein for the elementary school , Erwin Roth for psychology , Henning Kößler for philosophy , and Hans Glöckel , a history didactic .

The number of students increased from 815 in 1965 to 1200 in 1972. The new Regensburger Str. 160 campus has existed near the Dutzendteich since 1967 and is still used today for educational science.

One of the forerunners was the school teacher seminar under the direction of the philosopher GWF Hegel , who was then a local school councilor in Nuremberg. Soon afterwards it was moved to the vacant building of the Altdorf University, which was dissolved in 1809 .
