The Pontifical Academy Cultorum Martyrum ( Latin : Pontificia Accademia Cultorum Martyrum ) is a Pontifical Academy .

history

The forerunner of today's academy is the "Collegium Cultorum Martyrum", which was founded on February 2, 1879. Founders were the Christian archaeologists Mariano Armellini , Adolfo Hytreck , Orazio Marucchi and Enrico Stevenson, and in particular Giovanni Battista de Rossi .

The purpose was to promote the cult of martyrs and show the history of the first witnesses to the faith. The "Collegium Cultorum Martyrum", as a department of the Pontificia Accademia Romana di Archeologia , tried together with the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments and the Congregation for the Processes of Beatification and Canonization by researching the sacred acts of saints and martyrs, the understanding especially from the first To promote centuries of Christianity .

The Magister is automatically a member of the Council for the Coordination of the Pontifical Academies.

The Academy holds at least two general meetings per year, one in the Pontificio Istituto di Archeologia Cristiana and one in the S. Maria headquarters in Campo Santo in the Vatican.

In 1995 the statutes of the Academy were revised by Pope John Paul II .

The official seat of the Academy is S. Maria in Campo Santo at Campo Santo Teutonico , Piazza dei Protomartiri Romani, in the Vatican. The secretariat is located in the Pontifical Institute for Christian Archeology, Via Napoleone III No 1, Rome. The current master's degree is Fabrizio Bisconti, the secretary is Piero Vergari.
