French Pontifical Seminary

The Pontifical French Seminary ( Latin : Pontificium Seminarium Gallicum in Urbe , French : Séminaire Pontifical Français de Rome , short name: Gallicum ) is a French-speaking seminary in Rome .

The Gallicum was founded in 1853 by Louis-Marie Lannurien (1823-1854) of the Spiritaner order . Since 1856 the seminary has been located in a former monastery of the Poor Clares with the church of Santa Chiara , and in 1890 the buildings were extensively renovated.

That of Pope Pius IX. recognized seminary was 1902 by Pope Leo XIII. raised to the papal seminary.

The seminary is under the administration of the Roman Catholic Church of France ; the study program is completed at the Pontifical Gregorian University . Yves-Marie Fradet has been CSSp Regens of the seminary since 2000 .
