The Pontifical Canadian College ( Italian Pontificio Collegio Canadese , English Canadian Pontifical College ) in Rome is a papal college for seminarians and religious priests of the Sulpizians from Canada .

history

The college was founded in 1887 by Edward Henry Cardinal Howard , the financing was taken over by the Order Province of the Sulpizians in Canada, who later also became the head of the college. The Canadian superior of the Sulpizians Frédéric-Louis Colin PSS was also a sponsor . The school building was erected in Via delle Quattro Fontane in 1887 and the first students were enrolled in 1888. On May 6, 1932, Pope Pius XI gave the college . (1922–1939) the status of the Pontifical College, which was confirmed in November 2005 after an investigation. The decline in study participants led to the sale of its own buildings in 1974, and the college moved into a partial building in the Pontifical College of Nepomucenum in Via Concordia. In 1977 the college was established in Via Crescenzio, it is the general house of the Ursuline Sisters of the Holy Mount of Varallo . Today's seminary has 21 rooms here.
