Live and act

Andorai began his artistic career at the age of 19 as a theater actor in his hometown Budapest, later he also appeared in the Hungarian provinces (e.g. in 1971 in Kecskemét ). Between 1972 and 1976 Andorai received practical training from the drama teacher Zsusza Simon at the Budapest Theater and University Academy (Színház- és Filmművészeti Egyetem) . At a young age, Péter Andorai found employment both on the avant-garde stage (“Theater 25”) and at Budapest's National Theater (1967 to 1971 and again in 1976), the most famous theater in his country.

While still studying, Péter Andorai made his film debut; his first film role was that of communist Imre Sallai, who faces his own execution in the time drama Requiem for a revolutionary . In the following years Andorai received a number of supporting and occasionally leading roles. It was used several times by Hungary's best-known director István Szabó , who made it big in the world war drama Trust, which was awarded the Silver Bear at the Berlinale in early 1980 . Here Andorai embodied the main male role of Janos. Andorai received a total of four national and international film awards in 1999 and 2000 for his performance as the title hero in Simon mágus .

Despite his intensive work for the Hungarian cinema, Péter Andorai still found time for the stage. From 1983 he belonged to the József Attila Theater, moved to the Radnóti Miklós Theater in 1989 and to the Veszprémer Petöfi Theater in 1990. From 1994 to 2003 Andorai was a member of the Szeged National Theater ensemble . He then returned to the József Attila Theater for six years (until 2009).

Péter Andorai was married to the actress Edit Ábrahám since 1983; the couple had a son who is also active as an actor but also as a musician.
