Péter Marót (born May 27, 1945 in Miskolc ; † June 7, 2020 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian fencer .

successes

Péter Marót took second place at world championships with the Hungarian saber team in 1970 in Ankara , 1971 in Vienna and 1975 in Budapest . In 1973 he became world champion with her in Gothenburg . In the individual, he won his only medal in 1975 with bronze. He took part in two Olympic Games . At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , he reached the final round in singles, which he completed behind Wiktor Sidjak on silver. With the team he also won the bronze medal. In 1976 in Montreal he finished 18th in the individual, while he just missed another medal win with the team with fourth place.

On June 7, 2020, Marót died of the consequences of a serious traffic accident in which he was involved a few days earlier.
