P'yŏngbusŏn

The P'yŏngbu Line ( Korean 평부선 P'yŏngbusŏn ) is a railway line that connects Pyongyang Central Station with Kaesŏng Station . In theory, it leads to Busan Central Station in South Korea , the terminus is in practice - because of the demilitarized zone in Korea  - the station in Kaesŏng.

history

The P'yŏngbu Line was originally the part of the Gyeongui Line , which was split into three routes after the end of World War II. In the 1930s and 1940s, international trains ran to China on this route .

Before the Korean War , the line ran from Pyongyang Hbf. To Sariwon Bf. The line between Sariwon and the 38th parallel was closed by the Red Army . The regional trains for passenger traffic in South Korea now ran on the Yongsan – Kaesŏng – Toseong (Kaep'ung) route. After the end of the Korean War, the Sariwon – Kaesŏng line was reactivated and the Kaesŏng – Munsan line was closed.

After the summit meeting of South and North Korea in 2000, a connection with the Gyeongui Line was planned and implemented in June 2003. On May 17, 2007, a test drive was carried out on the Musan – Kaesŏng route. Freight traffic between South and North Korea is currently suspended due to the blockade of the Kaesŏng industrial region and other political reasons.

business

After 1948, the Korean State Railways took over the line that had belonged to the Japanese State Railways from 1910 to 1945 . According to the 2002 timetable, either RB or RE trains ran. From 2007 to 2008, freight trains operated on the Pongdong – Munsan route for the transport of goods from the Kaesŏng industrial region.
