P 2 O 5 was a German hard rock band with psychedelic influences.

Band history

P 2 O 5 was founded in Wendelstein in 1970 by Wolfgang Burkhard , Rainer Häuser , Helmut Hiebel and Edwin Lotter . The band members were former classmates. The band name came from their chemistry class at the Veit-Stoss- Realschule in Nuremberg and is the chemical formula for phosphorus pentoxide . According to an assessment by the label Ohrwaschl Records , stylistic influences can be found in Pink Floyd and Black Widow . First, P 2 O 5 performed in the Nuremberg area, where they achieved great popularity with their stage show (burning torches, marble cross, costumes). In 1971 they played at a concert for UNICEF , and in 1974 they won second place in a live competition organized by Südwestrundfunk in Baden-Baden . The singer Werner Weiss joined the band in 1977. With him the LP Vivat Progressio - Pereat Mundus was recorded, which was released in November of the following year.

There were several line-up changes within the band. In 1972 the guitarist Rainer Hauser left the band, but returned for a short time in 1975. In the meantime he has been replaced by Konny Hempel . The keyboardist Wolfgang Burkhard left in 1980, which caused a high turnover and finally led to the breakup of the band in 1982.

Trivia

P 2 O 5 is also the empirical formula for phosphorus pentoxide (drying agent).
