PES (director)

PES (born May 26, 1973 in New Jersey ; real name Adam Pesapane ) is an American animator , film director , film producer , screenwriter and cameraman who mainly shoots short films .

Life

Pesapane first studied English literature and printmaking at the University of Virginia . Even during this time he was drawing a lot and processing personal experiences in his stories. After completing his studies, he worked for a short time as a graphic designer for Icon Thoughtstyle magazine and then worked as an assistant at the McCann-Erickson advertising agency in New York City. At the New York University visited Pesapane film courses and ended at McCann his first short film Dogs of War , which was still not animated. In it, hungry children are pelted with hot dogs from bombers.

In 2001, he began working on his first animated short film, Roof Sex, about two chairs copulating on a roof, which was one minute long and which mainly spread over the Internet. The film won the 2002 Best First Work Award at the Festival d'Animation Annecy . Other short films followed, which PES made in stop-motion . He was also active as a commercial filmmaker. In 2013, his animated short, Fresh Guacamole, received an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Short .

The pseudonym PES is a nickname from childhood, which is composed of the first letters of his surname. PES himself also uses his pseudonym as a reference to the candy PEZ , which he alludes to on his website eatpes.com .
