history

founding

The history of PPF goes back to the early 1990s. After the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia , the government under Marián Čalfa decided to gradually privatize state-owned companies. The legal framework was passed on February 26, 1991 with the Act No. 92/1991 "created. One of the privatization methods allowed therein was coupon privatization . Czech nationals had two options for participating in coupon privatization: either directly purchasing shares in privatized companies or exchanging their coupons in advance for shares in privatization funds where managers make the investment decision. The PPF was just such an investment fund.

1990s

The Group's first major investment was the 1995 acquisition of Česká pojišťovna, the largest insurer in the Czech Republic. The successful transformation of the Česká pojišťovna company from an inefficient state organization into a functioning insurance company laid the foundation for its later success.

The restructuring of Česká pojišťovna in 1997 also formed the basis for the establishment of Home Credit, a consumer credit financier. In the second half of the 1990s, the banks PPF banka and eBanka were founded. Expansion into Slovakia also began.

Development from the year 2000

In 2002, the PPF Group took control of TV Nova , the first private television broadcaster in the Czech Republic. In 2007, PPF and the Italian Generali group founded Generali PPF Holding, one of the largest insurance groups in Central and Eastern Europe. Petr Kellner became a member of the Generali board.

In 2008 PPF acquired a major stake in Polymetal, one of the leading Russian silver and gold mining companies.

In 2009, PPF founded EPH (“Energetický a průmyslový holding”) together with J&T and Daniel Křetínský, with which it gained access to the energy and industrial sector.

In 2011, PPF founded Air Bank, a new retail bank with a focus on the online sector. In 2007, PPF entered the Chinese market with Home Credit. HomeCredit received a nationwide consumer credit license in 2014. PPF also acquired O2 Czech Republic in 2014 and splits the company into two areas.

The number of employees in the PPF Group exceeded 100,000 for the first time in 2015 and stood at 126,000 at the end of December 2016.
