The PPN Grdani ( Croatian for The Crazy ) was a special unit of the Croatian Defense Council (HVO) during the Bosnian War (1992-1995). The unit was set up in Čitluk and was stationed there. The unit was later subordinated to the HVO headquarters and deployed in difficult combat situations.

history

In April 1992 the Grdani formed as a so-called independent platoon ( Samostalni vod ) from 22 volunteers from Čitluk, namely Zdenko Vidović (commander), Stanko Turudić, Marin Vidić, Robert Čarapina, Ronald Planinić, Renato Prusina, Marinko Kikaš, Tihomir Šarac, Josip Sivrić, Goran Turudić, Dražen Planinić, Gordan Živković, Mario Barbarić, Hrvoje Iličić, Dragan Ostojić, Dragan Jerkić, Željko Šakota, Darko Bevanda, Jozo Bulić, Nikola Ćavar, Miroslav Zubac and Boris Planinić.

At the beginning of June 1992 the unit took part in Operation Lipanjske zore , an offensive against the Yugoslav Army and the armed forces of the Republika Srpska in which the Croatian forces gained control of the area around Mostar , which was mostly inhabited by Croatians and Bosniaks . The unit took part in the conquest of the Mostar urban areas of Rodoč, Jasenica and Buna.

Later Mario Zovko-Cvika and then Jozo Soldo-Štruca took over the command.

After the Lipanjske zore operation, the unit was assigned as an intervention unit (Interventni postrojba) to the HVO's Southeast Herzegovina Operation Zone. Their operational area was around Gnojnice , Blagaj and Buna . In battles with Serbian units, the PPN Grdani had eight slightly injured at this time.

Then the unit took part in Operation Bura in early November 1992 and was able to defend Kozjak Hill.

The unit had seven casualties during the war .
