The PTS-4 ( Russian ПТС-4, Плавающий транспортёр средний -4 in German: medium floating transporter 4 ) is a chain-driven amphibious landing vehicle made in Russia . It is the most modern version of the PTS series , the first variants of which date from the 1960s.
development
The development of the PTS-4 began in 2009 at the request of the Russian Ministry of Defense to replace the obsolete transfer cars of the PTS series from the 1970s and 1980s and also to have a uniform type in stock. The Russian arms company Omsktransmasch was commissioned to develop it . In the construction work, components of the main battle tank T-72 (power transmission) and T-80 (chassis and crawler) were used. On the one hand, the two tank types and their variants are widely used in the Russian army; on the other hand, the previous version PTS-2 shares modules with the T-64 , which was retired from the Russian armed forces in the mid-2010s
technology
The engine consists of a water-cooled twelve-cylinder - V engine of the type W-84ms from the early 1990s, which also is used in the T-90S. The drive unit has a displacement of 38.88 liters and produces 840 hp (618 kW) at 2000 revolutions per minute. In addition to a fully armored cab shall be responsible for effective protection against 7.62 mm bullets offer, has the PTS 4 via a remote control weapon station , which with a 12.7-mm nswt - machine gun is loaded. To protect the crew, it has an NBC protection and ventilation system, which is intended to ensure persistence in areas contaminated with NBC weapons. At the rear of the vehicle there are two ducted propellers , each with two oars, which should accelerate the vehicle in the water to a maximum of 15 km / h. The PTS-4 floats without preparation, only the surge board at the bow has to be folded down to cross a water hazard.
Loading capacity
The flat loading area without lanes is 29 m² (8280 by 3300 mm). The PTS-4 can carry up to 70 people or a vehicle the size of a BMP-3 or a military truck. The maximum load capacity in the water is 18 tons, on the land a maximum of 18 tons can be lifted. This results in a maximum weight of 51 tons. Loading and unloading is carried out using a hydraulically lowerable rear ramp. The vehicle has a winch to assist with charging .
use
According to the manufacturer, the PTS-4 is in series production and is available for the export market. The first users of the amphibious vehicle are the Russian armed forces, who tested the vehicle in 2011.
