The deep- sea tug Pacific was a sea tug that was used worldwide for the Bugsier shipping company Hamburg .
history
The Pacific was built by Schichau Seebeck under hull number 1719 , the delivery took place on December 19, 1962. On October 14, 1976 the Pacific was able to rescue five survivors of the sunken motor tanker Böhlen . Another well-known mission of the Pacific was during the wreck of the Amoco Cadiz tanker off the coast of Brittany on March 16, 1978.
In the early 1980s, the tug was launched in Bremerhaven and sold to Gencom Shipping in 1984. From then on he sailed under the flag of Gibraltar as Intergulf , until he was sold to International Marine Services in 1986, flagged out to Panama and launched as Imsalv Lion . Further changes of ownership followed: 1995 as Ocean Admiral (owner unknown) and 1997 as Seabulk Princess at Seabulk Offshore in Dubai .
In February 2001 the tug was finally sold to MS Karachi Steel and scrapped in Gadani, Pakistan .
Comparable ships
Comparable ships are the much better known Arctic and Oceanic . Due to recent accidents (for example the Pallas ) off Germany's coasts, the latter was in action for the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration for several years to ward off the dangers of large shipping off German coasts. The use of a sea tug from the 1960s became necessary because it became clear that current tugs are not efficient enough due to the commercial demands on multifunctionality for offshore operations and the averting of major shipping accidents.
