Paddy Lowe (* 8. April 1962 in Nairobi , Kenya ) is a British motor sport - engineering .

Life

Lowe acquired in 1984 at Sidney Sussex College of the University of Cambridge his engineering diploma. The Briton has been involved in Formula 1 since 1987. He got his first engagement at Williams as chief engineer in the electronics division. In 1993 he moved to competitor McLaren , where he headed the research and development department. In the internal team hierarchy Lowe rose continuously and so he worked in the McLaren Formula 1 team from 2005 as chief engineer. In 2011, he made a further leap in his career when he was appointed Technical Director. Since June 2013 he has worked for the Mercedes Formula 1 team . His successor at McLaren was Tim Goss . In January 2017, Lowe was released from Mercedes.

On March 16, 2017, Lowe announced that he was moving back to Williams from the 2017 Formula 1 World Championship . There he succeeded Pat Symonds as technical director . He also joined the team as a shareholder and became a member of the board.

On March 6, 2019, it was announced that Lowe was stepping down from his position as technical director for personal reasons. Williams had previously entered the Formula 1 winter tests late because there were problems with the completion of the Williams FW42 .

On June 25, 2019, Williams announced the final split.

Lowe is married and has two children.
