overview

Interior of a Zonda C12 F

The Pagani Zonda C12 is a two-seater mid - engine coupé or cabriolet . The body consists largely of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). Former Formula 1 driver Juan Manuel Fangio was involved in the first development . Therefore the car should initially be named after Fangio in "Pagani Fangio F1", but after the death of the racing driver in 1995 these plans were discarded. With a later model version, the Zonda C12 F , this idea was hinted at again.

This car is one of the most exclusive vehicles on the market, the basic price is around 600,000 euros, the annual capacity is only 17 vehicles. A maximum of 100 copies of the Zonda can be produced, as Mercedes-Benz has only promised to deliver the M 297 V12 engines for this number .

Model variants

Zonda C12

The C12 made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 1999. It was powered by a Mercedes-AMG 6.0-liter V12 engine with 290 kW / 394 hp and achieved top speeds of over 290 km / h. Five coupes of the C12 were built between 1999 and 2002, one of them for crash tests and one as a show car. The remaining three were delivered to customers.

Zonda C12 S.

In the case of the C12 S presented in 2000, the displacement was increased to 7.0 l and the output increased to 404 kW (550 PS). In addition, the aerodynamics have been improved by extending the nose and adding flaps to the rear. A total of 15 coupés of the C12 S were built.

Zonda C12 S 7.3

As indicated in the name, the Zonda C12 S 7.3 has a displacement increased to 7291 cm³ and an output of 408 kW (555 PS). This means that the Coupé and the Roadster, available for the first time, can accelerate from 0–100 km / h in just 3.7 s and reach a top speed of around 340 km / h. The S 7.3 also got traction control . The Zonda C12 S 7.3 Roadster was limited to 25 pieces.

Zonda C12 F

With the Zonda C12 F , sometimes just the Zonda F , the output has been increased again to 443 kW (602 hp), in the entire speed range from around 2000 rpm to around 7000 rpm is a torque of over 600 Nm, the maximum torque is with 760 Nm at 4000 rpm. The sprint from 0–100 km / h takes 3.6 s, from 0–200 in 9.8 s, the top speed is more than 345 km / h. From a speed of 200 km / h it comes to a stop in 4.4 seconds. The performance-enhanced clubsport version achieves 478 kW (650 hp) and a maximum torque of 780 Nm. The "F" stands for "Fangio" and pays homage to Juan Manuel Fangio . In addition to the technology, the appearance of the Pagani Zonda C12 F has also been revised so that over 60% of the parts of the car are new. At the Geneva Motor Show 2006 the "special model" Zonda C12 F Roadster was shown. The vehicle was limited to 15 units.

Special models

Zonda Cinque

The Zonda Cinque presented in 2008 is the street-ready version of the Zonda R. The Cinque model was limited to just five copies, which were specially manufactured for the Hong Kong-based dealer SPS Automotive Performance. As in the previous models, the Zonda Cinque is also powered by a Mercedes-AMG V12 engine with an output of 499 kW (678 hp). With a total weight of around 1210 kg, it accelerates the Zonda from 0–100 km / h in 3.4 s. The top speed is over 350 km / h. The Zonda Cinque is the first Zonda with a sequential circuit. This can be operated with rocker switches on the steering wheel or with the gear lever. The Zonda Cinque Roadster is technically identical to the Zonda Cinque and also limited to five copies.

Zonda Uno

The Pagani Zonda Uno is a special model based on the Zonda F, which was commissioned by Ana Al Thani , a member of the Qatari royal family. A special feature of the Uno is its turquoise paintwork, which is typical for Al-Thani's sports car collection. Furthermore, various elements of the Zonda Cinque and Zonda R were used for the body. In early 2011, just one year after Ana Al-Thani received the car, the Zonda Uno was offered for sale for € 1.7 million.

Zonda Tricolore

In 2010 the Pagani Zonda Tricolore was launched especially for the 50th birthday of the Italian Air Force Frecce Tricolori aerobatic team . Like the Cinque, the Tricolore is based on the Zonda R. The output here is approx. 492 kW (670 hp). Outwardly, it hardly differs from other Zondas, the differences lie in the blue painted body, the gold painted wheels with central locking and the LED daytime running lights in the front apron as well as the Italian national colors on the bonnet and the mirror housings. A total of three vehicles were produced.

Zonda Revolucion

With the Zonda Revolucion, Pagani presented another version of the Zonda in 2013. The V12 engine of the Zonda Revolucion has an output of 588 kW (800 PS) and a maximum torque of 730 Nm. Because of the lighter monocoque made of CFRP and titanium and the CFRP body, the vehicle weighs 1070 kg. The Revolucion was limited to 5 copies and cost 2.2 million euros plus taxes. The vehicles had all been sold at the presentation.

Zonda HP Barchetta

The Zonda HP Barchetta was presented in August 2017 in Pebble Beach at the Concours d'Elegance and is limited to three units. This is a variant of the Zonda Roadster, but with a shortened windscreen. The Barchetta has no roof.

Racing versions

Zonda C12 GR from Rock Media at the Hockenheimring, 2014

The C12 GR is a racing version based on the original C12, which competed in the 2003 Sebring 12-hour race and the Le Mans 24-hour race in the GTS class , but failed in both races with technical defects . The displacement of the vehicle used by the American racing team Carsport America was 6000 cm³. After that, the car appeared irregularly in the pre-tests of the FIA GT championship until 2008 . Despite multiple mention of the Rock Media Motors team between 2006 and 2008, the car did not take part in any championship run. In addition, the organizers excluded the nomination for the race in August 2007 at the Automotodrom Brno because the C12 GR lacked the necessary homologation sheet .

The R version (Racing) of the Pagani Zonda was presented as a 1/4 model at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show . It is a further developed, non-street legal version of the Zonda C12 F. It costs around € 1,200,000 plus taxes. The 6.0-liter V12 engine from the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR produces 551 kW (750 hp) on the test bench. The flat body will be made of lightweight materials such as carbon fiber reinforced plastic ("carbon"). In order to keep the vehicle on the piste at high speeds, it is given aerodynamic components like a Formula 1 vehicle: the underbody is covered, and a diffuser and adjustable wing provide downforce at the rear .
