Palazzo Salviati

Palazzo Salviati is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Dorsoduro sestiere overlooking the Grand Canal between the Palazzo Barbaro Wolkoff and the Palazzo Orio Semitecolo Benzon .

history

The building was built as a trading shop and furnace for the Salviati glass factory in 1903–1906 according to plans by the architect Giacomo dell'Olivo . The factory was founded in 1859 by Antonio Salviati . In 1924, the small palace underwent a thorough restoration, which consisted of adding a storey and installing a large mosaic in the facade - similar to that in Palazzo Barbarigo .

description

The rather simple facade would be of no interest if it weren't for the large mosaic in the center, flanked by two individual arched windows. This scheme is repeated on the floor above, with a double window installed above the mosaic. There are three large arched openings on the ground floor, the middle of which is the portal to the water. A mosaic frieze is attached over the arches. Above the cornice above, the name "Salviati" is inserted in another frieze under the large mosaic of the main floor.
