history

The building was erected in the 16th century in the Renaissance style. The headquarters of the glass manufacturer Pauly & C. - Compagnia Venezia Murano has been located there since the 20th century .

description

The palace has one of the characteristic facades on the Grand Canal. It carries mosaics made of Murano glass , which were installed in 1886 by order of the then owners, the Testolini brothers , owners of the Fratelli Testolini glass factory - later MQ Testolini . The company specialized in the production of artistically designed, carved furniture, glassware, mosaics, textiles and other furnishings. Although this intervention did not match the original appearance of the palace, it was in line with the practice of the 16th century of colorfully decorating the facades with frescoes , a technique that, unlike the mosaic, tended to deteriorate quickly (e.g. B. think of the frescoes by Giorgione on the Fondaco dei Tedeschi ).

The Palazzo Barbarigo is a building with a layout typical of the 16th century, of modest dimensions and three stories high, which is well highlighted by the design of the facade. This opens on the ground floor in the middle in a loggia, the two arches of which allow access from the water to the vestibule . The two main floors are identically equipped with arched windows, of which the quadruple windows in the middle with their balustrades are particularly noteworthy. A fine, serrated ledge crowns the building.
