Palazzo della Pilotta
The Palazzo della Pilotta is a building complex in the historic center of Parma , in Emilia-Romagna , Italy . Its name is derived from the pelota game.
history
Against 1,583 in the last years of the reign of Duke Ottavio Farnese built, it was built around the corridor ( corridors ) of the keep ( Rocchetta can, remains near the shores of Parma include -Flusses) joined with the Ducal Palace: the latter was in 1622 by Duke Ranuccio I started but never completed. The facade on the Piazza della Ghiaia is missing; the adjoining Dominican Church of St. Peter has been destroyed.

The present ensemble comprises three courtyards: the Cortile di San Pietro Martire (now called Cortile della Pilotta ), Cortile del Guazzatoio (originally della pelota ) and the Cortile della Racchetta . The pilotta contained a large hall, which was later converted into the Teatro Farnese , stables and grooms apartments, the academy hall and other rooms. After the fall of the Farnese in Parma, the palace was evacuated, starting with the heir Charles I, later Charles III. of Spain , who transferred the property and the Farnese collections from Parma and Rome to Naples .
