Panajot Pano ( Greek Παναγιώτης Πάνου ; * March 7, 1939 in Durrës ; † January 19, 2010 in Jacksonville, Florida ) was an Albanian football player and is considered a legend in Albanian football.
career
Pano came from a Greek family and grew up in the Albanian capital Tirana. He began his career at the age of 12 as a goalkeeper in the SK Tirana youth team . He was later used as a center forward and scored 13 goals in the first season in this position. In 1959 Pano was called up for service in the army and moved to Partizani Tirana . Partizani Tirana was an armed forces football team with ties to the Ministry of Defense.
He played a total of 28 times for the Albanian national soccer team and scored the first competitive goal for Albania on October 30, 1963 in the European Championship qualifier against Denmark . He was also part of the Albanian team, which four years later reached a 0-0 draw against runner-up world champions Germany , which was the only time that Germany was eliminated in qualifying for a major tournament (see: Disgrace of Tirana ). He played his last international game on November 28, 1973 against China , where he scored the goal for the 1-1 final.
After his resignation in 1975 he took over as coach of the U-21 national team of Albania and also coached the youth players of Partizani. In 2004 he was voted Albanian Player of the Last Century.

He and his club won the Albanian championship four times, the Albanian Cup five times and the Balkan Cup in 1970 .

Private life
Pano was married and had two children, a son and a daughter with his wife. His son Ledio also became a soccer player. Pano retired from active football in May 1975 and became a coach for several years.
In 2011, the director Kujtim Gjonaj filmed the life of the Albanian football player in a documentary entitled Magjia Pano . His career is described using photographs, newspaper reports and memoirs from his contemporaries.
