The Panduros dwarf cichlid ( Apistogramma panduro ) is a species of cichlid . This species was first scientifically described in 1997.

Appearance

The Panduro dwarf cichlid has an elongated body and a large mouth in relation to its body. The caudal fin has a bright red colored border, which is bordered in black. The basic body color is bluish. The dorsal fin , anal fin and pectoral fin are also bluish in their basic color and sometimes play into yellowish tones. Females tend to have a yellowish body color and have a strong black belly spot.

The fish reaches a total length of up to seven centimeters.

distribution

As is typical for the Apistogramma species, this species only has a very small distribution area. So far it has only been found in a Peruvian jungle stream that flows into the Tahuayo .

Aquaristics

The Panduros dwarf cichlid is considered a peaceful fish that is suitable for socialization in a community tank. Only during the breeding season does the male show slight territorial behavior. The fish are considered omnivores, but thrive best on live or frozen food . The foreground of the aquarium should offer them swimming space and be largely free of plants. Like many South American fish species, both root wood and fallen leaves are suitable for decorating the aquarium.

The Panduros dwarf cichlids can either be brought for breeding by keeping them as a pair or by keeping a male with several females. The females spawn on the ceiling of a cave. As is typical for many Apistogramma species, the eggs are looked after by the female, while the male defends the territory.

The young fish are rearing by feeding them with the finest powdered food. Alternatively, the young fish can also be fed freshly hatched brine shrimp ( Artemia ).
