The predecessors of the daily newspaper were the newspapers "Aukštaitijos rytas" and "Panevėžio savaitė". The founder and publisher is UAB “ Lietuvos rytas ” and has been independent since 2008. It was the Panevėžys City newspaper until 1994, and Panevėžys City and District newspaper until 2010 . In 1993 it had a print run of 13,900 copies.
