Panguso ( Chinese  盤古 搜索 , Pinyin Pángǔ sōusuǒ ) is a Chinese company that operates the mainly Chinese-language search engine panguso.com. Compared to the private-sector search engines used more frequently in China, the Sino-American Baidu and the American Google , the two shareholders of this joint venture are the state-owned Chinese news agency Xinhua and the world's largest mobile operator China Mobile in 2011 .

founding

The founding of the search engine was announced in August 2010, a beta version ran in December 2010 and the official start was at the end of February 2011. The front page redirects to the “News” category, where the first headlines can already be seen in addition to the search window. News is also the focus of the search engine. The state-monopoly Chinese content provider Xinhua and the largest Chinese mobile operator (2010: 550 million users) have joined forces with the two partners . The search engine is to be preset on the mobile phones and is therefore also an answer to Google, which brought its Google phone to the market.

Chances of success

The main competitive disadvantage of the search engine is its official character, since, according to the Internet study by the Chinese Academy for Social Sciences, Chinese Internet users are particularly interested in diverse, high-potential information outside of the state information channel. According to Qian Xiaoqian, representative of the Chinese State Council, the search engine should "offer useful and healthy products and work to limit the distribution of illegal content such as pornography and the glorification of violence". The results displayed on Panguso are more limited than on Google and even more limited than on baidu .
