Papa Gueye (born June 7, 1984 in Dakar ) is a Senegalese football player . The defender is under contract with the Kazakh first division club FK Aqtöbe and plays for the Senegalese national team .

Club career

Papa Gueye played at the beginning of his career from 2002 to 2004 in his hometown of Dakar for AS Douanes . Here he played with the later Bundesliga player Papiss Demba Cissé , among others . The club won the Senegalese Cup in each of these two seasons. Since no data is known, it is not clear whether Gueye was used in the cup games. The defender was not involved in either of the finals. During the winter break of the 2004/05 season he was committed by the Ukrainian first division club Volyn Lutsk . In the following season Lutsk rose despite a tie with FK Kharkiv and Krywbas Krywyj Rih due to the poorer goal difference.

Papa Gueye moved after relegation to league rivals Metalist Kharkiv . There he was to form the new duo in central defense together with the also newly signed former Bundesliga player Milan Obradović and also to replace the Oleksandr Kutscher who had migrated to master Donetsk . In Gueye's first season 2006/07 Kharkiv reached third place in the table, the best placement in the club's history and for the first time the qualification for a European club competition. In addition, the club was able to provide the best defense in the league with 20 goals conceded. Also in the following years up to 2012 Dynamo Kiev and Shakhtar Donetsk played the championship among themselves, while Kharkiv reached third place in the table. The greatest success for Gueye and his team was reaching the quarter-finals of the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League . There the club narrowly failed at the Portuguese representative Sporting Lisbon . In the 2012/13 season, Metalist Kharkiv was able to improve its best league placement again, becoming runner-up behind Donetsk and thus qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for the first time .

In 2016 he was signed by the Russian first division club FK Rostov . In February 2017 he went to Kazakhstan for FK Aqtöbe .

National team

Due to his sustained strong performance, Papa Gueye made his debut on February 29, 2012 for the Senegalese national soccer team . In the 0-0 friendly against South Africa , he played the full length. He was also appointed as one of a maximum of three possible reinforcement players for the 2012 Summer Olympics and in a previous friendly against Switzerland who may have already exceeded the U-23 age limit at the Olympic Games. In the four tournament games, Gueye was used over the full distance. In the quarter-finals, Senegal failed 4-2 after extra time against the eventual Olympic champion Mexico .
