Paproć Duża [ˈpaprɔt ͡ɕ ˈduʐa] ( German Königshuld ; also: Groß Königshuld ; Groß-Paprotsch ) is a village in the municipality of Szumowo near Zambrów in the Podlaskie Voivodeship in northeastern Poland . The village has 460 inhabitants.

geography

The place is located about 16 km southwest of Zambrów and 75 km west of the capital of the region of the city of Białystok .

history

The place was founded in 1800 mainly by German settlers from Mecklenburg under the name Königshuld . The nearby villages of Luisenau (pl. Mala Pechratka), Wilhelmsdorf (pl. Krole), Klein Königshuld (pl. Srebrna), Borek and Mecklenburg (pl. Kowalewko) also belonged to the language island of Königshuld.

Paproć Duża has a star-shaped, symmetrical structure, i. H. all streets run exactly concentrically towards a large round square in the middle. A Protestant church has been located on the central square in the middle since 1837. In this the future Polish dictator Józef Piłsudski married his wife Maria Juszkiewiczowa on July 15, 1899. Since she was divorced, he joined the Evangelical Lutheran Church before the marriage in Paproć Duża near Łomża . During the First World War he returned to the Roman Catholic Church.
