The Paradise River is a 29 km long river in the south of the island of Newfoundland, which belongs to the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador .
River course
The Paradise River forms the outflow of the approximately 160 m high lake Sock Pond in the south of Newfoundland. It drains the lake at its southwestern end. Right at the beginning and after a further 9 kilometers, route 210 , which is the road connection to the Burin Peninsula , crosses the Paradise River. In between, Little Dunns Brook and Dunns Brook flow into the Paradise River from the right. It flows southeast for the lower 20 kilometers before reaching the northern end of the elongated Paradise Sound bay .
Paradise River Hydroelectric Power Station
The Paradise River hydroelectric power station ( ⊙ ) is located at the mouth of the Paradise River. It was put into operation in 1989. The Paradise River is dammed by a 43 m high arch dam ( ⊙ ) made of concrete and at least one other dam ( ⊙ ) over a length of 3.8 km. The associated hydropower plant functions as a run-of-river power plant . It is equipped with a Francis turbine . This has an output of 8 MW. The expansion water volume is 25 m³ / s. The average annual energy production is 36 GWh. The facility is operated by Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro .
