The Kuururjuaq National Park or Parc national Kuururjuaq ( Inuktitut ᑰᕈᕐᔪᐊᒥ ) is one of the Parcs national in the Canadian province of Québec . There, however, a parc national corresponds to what corresponds to a provincial park in the other provinces and territories .

The closest place, the Inuit settlement Kangiqsualujjuaq , is east of the park.

The task of the northeastern Québec, in the administrative region of Nord-du-Québec located and with 4,426.78 km² one of the largest parks in the province, is the valley of the 160-kilometer Rivière Koroc that the Torngatbergen in the Ungava Bay flows , as well as to protect part of the source mountain range itself. There is also the highest mountain in the province with 1652  m , the Mont D'Iberville ( Mount Caubvick ).

The reserve, established in 2009, stretches to the east as far as the border with the neighboring province of Newfoundland and Labrador , to the Torngat Mountains National Park . It is unusual that there are still extensive forests this far north. The park represents three natural regions, namely the foot of the Torngat Mountains, the Plateau de la George and the Ungava coast.

In principle, the Parcs national in the province of Québec are administered by the Société des établissements de plein air du Québec (Sépaq). However, since the park is north of the 55th parallel and thus in the Nunavik region , it is managed by Parcs Nunavik, which is subordinate to the Administration régionale Kativik (Kativik Regional Government, KGR) .

Surname

It is named after the Koroc or Kuururjuaq River, which in Inuktitut , the language of the Inuit who lives there, means something like "large river bed".
