Venetian lovers (mid-16th century)

Paris Bordone , also Paris Bordon (* around 1500 in Treviso ; † January 19, 1570 more veneto , i.e. 1571, in Venice ) was a painter of the Venetian school.

Paris Bordone was probably a pupil of Titian for two years around 1516. In 1538 he was called to France by Francis I , where he painted the king and the most distinguished gentlemen and women. Showered with honors, in 1540 he received an invitation from the Fuggers in Augsburg to paint their castle. He then went back to Venice via Augsburg in 1540 , where he died on January 19, 1570.

He was also active in Treviso , Vicenza , Crema , Genoa and Turin . In his numerous portraits, of which the female ones are particularly successful, he knows how to create an enchanting effect through the splendor and richness of the coloring, while in large historical pictures he is often colorful and hard. But here, too, with the presentation of the ring by the fisherman to the Doge (Academy in Venice), he created a work which, in terms of composition and the rich gloss of the coloring, is one of the first masterpieces of the Venetian school. In his ideal female figure, he follows the elegance and delicacy of Palma the elder . He has also created moral images (Frauenbad in Vienna), allegories and mythological paintings. The main pictures of him are in the Uffizi Gallery and Pal. Pitti in Florence, Treviso (Adoration of the Shepherds), Genoa, Milan, Paris and Vienna.
