Parkour Worldwide Association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Parkour Worldwide Association (PAWA) was a 2005 by David Belle , was established sports federation to Parkour to develop to present and market commercially. The aim was to “show, convey and develop parkour true to the original” and “spread the true philosophy of parkour and make the art of locomotion an integral part of our society”. The creation of a "Parkour Center" comparable to the Shaolin Temple in Kung Fu was named as the main goal . Sandra Hess managed the German branch of PAWA.

Among other things, PAWA planned a “World Tour” to finance the event. The Berlin Postbahnhof and the Bundestag underground station (which was still closed at the time) were, for example, the setting for such demonstration shows. However, this commercialization contradicted the common philosophy of parkour and was rejected by many traceurs . Jocelyn Demoniere was PAWA International President. David Belle therefore again distanced himself from PAWA. The background was different views: here only concerned with efficiency - there on the art of movement itself, including acrobatic elements.
