David Belle (born April 29, 1973 in Fécamp , France ) is a French traceur and actor . Belle is considered to be the founder of parkour .

As a child, David Belle learned the Méthode Naturelle , an art of moving through the landscape with its natural obstacles in harmony with nature and the environment, from his father Raymond Belle , a former Vietnam soldier , in the forests of northern France . At the end of the 1980s, he playfully transferred this method to the urban landscape of the Paris suburb of Lisses . From the playful chases of the children over stairs, table tennis tables, wastepaper baskets and small streams, the friends developed the parkour as adolescents by incorporating increasingly difficult obstacles such as walls, fences, scaffolding and later building facades and high-rise buildings.

In the book The Art of Combat: 300 Martial Arts , written by Chris Crudelli , in which various martial arts , martial arts and self-defense systems are described, Parkour is also counted. Belle is quoted as follows: “In an unpleasant encounter, you basically have three options: talking , fighting, or fleeing . Almost all martial arts and self-defense systems do not deal with escape at all. It is my hope that parkour can fill this gap. "

Belle studied acting and starred in several small French television productions. He also played most of the time in commercials for Nike , the BBC , Nissan and Canon , but also worked as a stuntman and actor in major film productions such as The Purple Rivers 2 - The Angels of the Apocalypse , Prince of Persia and Transporter - The Mission . He had his biggest role to date in Pierre Morel's film Ghettogangz - Hell before Paris as the leading actor alongside Cyril Raffaelli , which he continued in the sequel Ghettogangz 2 - Ultimatum from 2009.

For about three years he headed the Yamakasi group , which consisted of training colleagues and like-minded people. The group split due to differences over the future direction of Parkour. Some members can be seen as traceurs in the film Yamakasi - The Samurai of Modernism by director Ariel Zeitoun .

In 2005, Belle co-founded the Parkour Worldwide Association (PAWA), but withdrew its support in 2006.
