The Parque Nacional Natural Utría is a Colombian natural park founded in 1987 . It extends in the department of Chocó on the Pacific coast in the area of the municipalities of Nuquí and Bahía Solano on an area of 54,300 hectares up to an altitude of 1200 m above sea level. The highest point of the park is the Alto del Buey , on which the Río Baudó rises. The climate is warm and humid with temperatures between 23 and 30 ° C and a relative humidity of 80 to 95%. It also rains on at least 300 days a year, with annual precipitation adding up to around 10,000 liters per square meter.

The park is one of the areas with the world's greatest biodiversity , which is probably due to the close interlinking of the primary rainforest and the sea coast. Above all, the avifauna is extremely rich thanks to numerous migratory birds with approx. 270 species and also includes very rare, endemic species such as the brown-mantled forehead bird Psarocolius cassini , the Kerrtinamu Crypturellus kerriae or the Esmeraldas railing Aramides wolfi . In addition, the nature park is home to numerous amphibians - over 140 species of frogs , many of them endemic - and around 70 species of reptiles, from the olive ridged turtle Lepidochelys olivacea to the idol snake Boa constrictor . The park's larger land mammals include a. the great anteater Myrmecophaga tridactyla , the ocelot Felis pardalis and the jaguar Panthera onca . The most famous area of the park is the Ensenada de Utría, a narrow and elongated fjord-like bay with a length of approx. 5 km and a width of approx. 500 m. The warm Ensenada is lined with sandy beaches and mangrove swamps on the shallow bank areas and serves as a "nursery" for many marine animals - the most impressive example are probably humpback whales ( Megaptera novaeangliae ), which visit the warm coastal waters of the region for reproduction from May to November and sometimes in the Ensenada can be seen with their babies. In the coastal waters of the park there are also a. around 100 species of fish and 105 species of crustaceans . Another distinct rarity for the Colombian Pacific coast is a small coral reef at the entrance to the Ensenada. The management of the nature park can also be found there, where there are also overnight accommodations for tourists in simple huts. The park administration can be reached by boat from El Valle, about 10 km to the north.
