Nuquí is a municipality ( municipio ) on the Pacific coast in northwest Colombia in the Chocó department . Part of the Utría Natural Park is located in the municipality of Nuquí .

geography

Nuquí is located in the west and center of Chocó at an altitude of 5 m above sea level. NN , 184 km from Quibdó . The municipality borders in the north on Bahía Solano , in the east on Alto Baudó , in the west on the Pacific Ocean and in the south on Bajo Baudó .

population

The municipality of Nuquí has 8958 inhabitants, of which 3977 live in the urban part (cabecera municipal) of the municipality (as of 2019).

history

On the one hand, an expedition by Juanito Castro in search of the natural fiber of the Damagua tree from the Río Baudó played a role in the establishment of the place. On the other hand, there were settlement movements that emanated from Buenaventura . 1917 is given as the official year of foundation.

Nuquí's main industries are fishing , animal husbandry and agriculture .

Nuquí can only be reached by plane from Quibdó , Medellín and Pereira or by boat from Buenaventura or Panama , as there are no roads. With a small propeller plane that can hold a maximum of 15 passengers, you can reach Nuquí Airport, Aeropuerto Reyes Murillo ( IATA code : NQU ) in 50 minutes from Medellín.
