Alto Baudó is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Chocó in Colombia . The main town (cabecera municipal) of Alto Baudó is Pie de Pató .

geography

Alto Baudó is located on the Río Baudó in the center of Chocó at an altitude of 50  m above sea level. NN , 80 km from Quibdó . Alto Baudó borders in the north on Quibdó, Bojayá and Bahía Solano , in the east on Quibdó, Río Quito and El Cantón de San Pablo , in the west on Nuquí and in the south on Bajo Baudó and Medio Baudó .

The municipality of Alto Baudó has 40,733 inhabitants, of which 10,807 live in Pie de Pató (as of 2019).

history

Alto Baudó was founded in 1958 as a split from the municipality of Baudó , whose main town was Pizarro (today's main town of Bajo Baudó ).

economy

Alto Baudó is located in one of the underdeveloped and poorest regions of Colombia and is also one of the poorest communities in Chocó. The main industries in Alto Baudó are agriculture , timber , fishing and pig farming .

traffic

There is no road or air connection to Alto Baudó. The only way to the main town Pie de Pató is from Puerto Meluk (main town of Medio Baudó ) by boat over the Río Baudó .
