Parque Natural de Somiedo
The Parque Natural de Somiedo is a nature park and biosphere reserve in the northern Spanish province of Asturias .

The park has an area of 291 km². The highest point is the El Cornón mountain with a height of 2,194 m.
About 1600 people live in the entire nature park. Somiedo is part of the UNESCO project Man and the Biosphere , which is concerned with integrating settlements with low population densities into nature according to strict ecological rules.
The nature park is not unknown to alpine tourists and is mentioned in most travel guides about northern Spain as a special hiking area.
history
The area was declared a nature park in 1988. The Parque Natural de Somiedo is the oldest natural park in Spain. In 2000, the park was declared a biosphere reserve .
fauna
The largest brown bear population in Spain lives in this nature park with a number of approx. 160 animals. In addition, here come Pyrenean chamois , wild boars, wolves and wild cats before.
