Part & Fragment -

Part & Fragment is the second studio album by the Augsburg post-rock band Dear John Letter . It was released on October 15, 2010.

Style and reception

The transitions between the pieces are partly fluid, for example “You Remain Unshakeably Calm” transitions directly into “The Looking Glass”. For the first time, the quintet is increasingly using comparatively short pieces, such as the one-minute “The Silver Ring of the Bell” or the roughly twice as long “That's The Way The Cookie Crambles”.

Part & Fragment also differs stylistically from the previous releases. The post-rock celebrated on the debut EP and the previous album alternates on Part & Fragment with quotes from art rock and psychedelic rock , such as a longer guitar solo in “House of Leaves”; as influences, in addition Amplifier sometimes Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin called; for example Mario Karl writes on musikansich.de :

“This is modern art rock on a pretty high level. In the background, fine synth pads ripple out of the speakers, imaginative guitars circle around the finely waving bass, which is driven by the varied and very dynamic drumming. "

The music magazine eclipsed also finds words of praise and particularly highlights the last piece "Kandi":

"If the band begins the ten-minute piece with their own dreaminess, they soon rise into a glowing feverish dream and ring the church bells in the middle, so that towards the end they let off steam with a progrock steamroller."
