48er
The 48er (until 1998 48-hour festival ) was a music and cabaret festival that took place every summer from 1993 to 2016 in Herrenberg . It was organized entirely on a voluntary basis by a mostly youthful team. Over the past few years, more than 100 unpaid volunteers have worked on the festival itself.
The event took place on the grounds of the JuHas, the youth center in Herrenberg, where the visitors also had the opportunity to camp. It was held on an indoor and an outdoor stage. Films were shown on the outdoor stage at night.
In the best years, the 48er had around 12,000 visitors per event weekend.
history
The festival was created as a 48-hour festival on the initiative of visitors and community service members of the Herrenberg youth center, on whose property it took place until the end. Initially, the performances extended from Friday to Sunday, later only Friday and Saturday until early in the morning. From the beginning it was conceived as an event with free entry and artistic standards that was self-financing.
At the beginning only a few hundred visitors came, but in the first year, WIZO, a larger band could be won as an artist. From 1994 to 2002 it had a different motto every year. In 1996 Michael Mittermeier appeared shortly before he became known . Since 1999 the festival is only called 48er .
In 2017 the festival was canceled, according to the organizers, due to declining support and rising costs. At the end of 2017, the announcement of the permanent end of the 48ers followed, making the 2016 festival the last 48er festival in Herrenberg. Since then, a smaller festival similar to the 48 has been held on the same site every summer.
