Les Babacools are a band from the Laim district of Munich , founded in 1992 , who, together with the French band Mano Negra, are pioneers of mestizo .
Band history
Les Babacools were founded in 1991 in the Laim district of Munich. They started as a cover band and interpreted the blues , Lenny Kravitz and the Beatles at the beginning , before Victor and Don Caramelo (von Blumentopf ) joined the band and moved the sound more in the direction of Raggamuffin. Characterized by Mano Negra, MC Solaar , P-Funk and Reggae, a multicultural group was created that complements the classic band line-up of guitar, bass, drums and keyboard with percussion and brass. The texts are Spanish and English.
The band soon became known in Germany as a live band, performing with the likes of Fettes Brot , Blumentopf and Maceo Parker . In 1998 her debut EP Rude Radio was released . Then the band goes on tour as support for Fun Lovin Criminals . Later a tour with Fishbone followed .
In 2003 her debut album Compañeros 36 was released as an in-house production distributed by Soulfood . This was followed in 2005 by Mundo Stereo , the first album that was not self-distributed but was released via SPV Recordings . The album features guest contributions by Gentleman and Jack Radics .
In 2010, her last album to date, Son Madito, was released via GLM Music.
In 2017 Christoph Ising (Easy Easing) died, who played keyboards for both Raggabund and Babacools.
Don Caramelo is also the singer of Raggabund, he runs the project with his brother Paco Mendoza (El Criminal).
Music genre
Les Babacools themselves call their music "Raggafunkin". Stylistically, the band can be assigned to the crossover , with reggae taking up a large part of the music. But there are other styles such as funk , mestizo , hip-hop , rock , and urban in the music. The texts are mainly in Spanish and English, but Italian and Spanish are also used.
