Gab is a German-language a cappella - Ensemble , which as a pure male quartet in 2002 Munich was founded. With the change to the mixed quintet in 2006 the musical focus shifted from barbershop to pop and jazz . Mundwerk is a Munich group that is known far beyond the city limits.

history

Mundwerk emerged from the Wackeldackel project in autumn 2002 . Wackeldackel were five professional singers who recorded an a cappella accompanying CD for a children's book for Anette-Betz-Verlag, which in addition to numerous children's songs also contains poems by Christian Morgenstern , Ringelnatz and Goethe . Three of them, Guido Vincent v. Weber, Jens Ickert and Hans-Jürgen Wieneke then founded the Mundwerk ensemble together with Peter Möller .

In 2002 the quartet made its debut at the Munich Vokal-Total-Festival. A song from the live recording can be found on the a cappella sampler Vokal Total 2003 . This was followed by an invitation to the 2003 International A-cappella Festival in Graz , where Mundwerk took second place in the Comedy category . In 2004, Mundwerk defended its title in Graz and won the audience rating with over 70% of the total votes. In the same year Mundwerk sang the debut album "Groupies" before the bass, Peter Möller, left the quartet. He was replaced by Oliver Zunker.

In 2005, Mundwerk toured Germany, Austria and Switzerland with his program "On the 8th day God created the groupies". The group performed at the Federal Garden Show , the Zurich Acappella Night and, together with Josef Pretterer, at the Munich a cappella festival “Vokal Total”.

Due to its origins in the barbershop, the musical focus of Mundwerk up to this point was stylistically on close harmony movements. In 2006, Mundwerk oriented itself musically more jazzy in the style of Neri Per Caso or Take 6 . Birgit Pfirstinger and Susanne Mörtl replace the previous tenor Hans-Jürgen Wieneke as soprano and alto.

Since 2007, Mundwerk has been touring successfully with the new Ober zack program , a Helles through German-speaking Europe. Sebastian Prittwitz replaced the tenor Guido Vincent v. Weber.

Mundwerk has been on the road since 2011 with the "a cappella with brains" program. This also resulted in first concert tours to non-German-speaking countries, such as for the Goethe-Institut in Lille in February 2013. The ensemble's greatest success to date, winning the Bavarian choir competition in the category "Jazz, Vocal, etc." also fell in 2013.

Christian Wolf has been a permanent member of the formation since the beginning of 2013, taking over from the previous bass, Oliver Zunker.

In 2015 the singer, actor and director Florian Volkmann takes over the tenor position from Sebastian Prittwitz.

Alexander Seitz has held the tenor position since 2016.

repertoire

The focus of the repertoire in "Mundwerk" is on German-language songs. Own compositions like I g'hör da hie and Das are not so difficult to balance with rewritten classics like Ober Zack ein Helles (“ Living Next Door to Alice ”), a scenic description of a Rhinelander's first experiences in one Münchner Brauhaus, or literary settings like Der Werwolf based on a poem by Christian Morgenstern . True to the band's name, Mundwerk keeps bringing new songs to the stage that deal with the German language in all its many facets, for example the song "Konjunktiv", which is regularly used by German teachers as illustrative material, a homage to the antiquated but still "valid" subjunctive -To form.
