Yakuzi is a melodycore / ska punk band from Pforzheim that was founded in 2001 . The musicians describe their style as "trumpet punk".

history

Yakuzi was founded in autumn 2001 as a skatepunk band by singer Oli Dieterle, drummer Marco Dieterle and guitarist Andy Tomas and at that time consisted of the standard punk line-up of two guitars, drums and bass. At the end of 2001 a trumpeter, Thomas Gärtner, was added. Then the new bassist Thomas Schwab and trombonist Matthias Hefner joined the band, which partly shifted the style to the more danceable ski area. Her first self-recorded EP No Lovesongs sold three hundred times by October 2002, after which Yakuzi recorded the second EP Trumpet Punk, of which over 600 copies were sold by 2004. In addition, more than 3000 demo CDs with three songs were given away in 2005 .

In April 2004 the band recorded their first album Blow Jobs in the studio , which was released in July and sold over 1300 CDs by the end of 2007. In the meantime, Yakuzi played as the opening act for well-known bands such as B. Mad Caddies , The Busters , Across the Border , The Wohlstandskinder , The Real McKenzies , Donots or Dr. Ring thing . In the summer of 2006 the band had their biggest gig to date in front of 10,000 spectators at Das Fest in Karlsruhe.

On September 22nd, 2006 the album One to All! via the Cologne label Rookie Records . Concerts in Germany, Switzerland, France and the Netherlands followed. In December 2007, the group recorded their third album Thin Red Line in the studio , which was released on March 28, 2008. A music video was shot for the song 7 Minutes Cash Flow .

After eight years of membership in the band, founding member and guitarist Andy Tomas left the band for personal reasons, followed by Thomas Gärtner, the trumpeter. The last concert in the long-standing original line-up was at the Rock-Shop-Fest on October 4th, 2008 in Karlsruhe. After a few concerts with substitute guitarists, a guitarist in Florian Zeitler and a trumpeter in Christian Kocheise were found at the end of 2009. The two new musicians left the band for personal reasons in 2011 and were replaced by Steffen Ruge (guitar) and Markus Seibold (trumpet). In the same year Yakuzi played again at several festivals, including the Mini-Rock-Festival 2012 as headliner on the tent stage.

At the end of 2012, Yakuzi announced that it would take an indefinite break and played her last concert for the time being in the Substage in Karlsruhe on December 8th. Since 2016 the band has been playing a few concerts a year.
