The East Timorese market town of Pasar Tono is located in the special administrative region Oe-Cusse Ambeno ( Suco Cunha , administrative office Pante Macassar ) on the banks of the Tono River . The road from Pante Macassar leads through it over the river to Oesilo . The inhabitants belong to the Atoin Meto ethnic group , which makes up the majority of the population in the west of the island of Timor .
The largest market of Oe-Cusse Ambeno takes place in Pasar Tono every Tuesday. Several thousand people come together to trade in food, animals and handicraft products, such as tais , the woven cloth typical of Timor.
