The Pasayten River is a right tributary of the Similkameen River , located in the Canadian province of British Columbia and in the US state of Washington . It is part of the river system of the Columbia River by flowing into the Similkameen River, which in turn flows into the Okanagan River and this into the Columbia River.
course
The Pasayten River has its source in the Northern Cascade Range , which is part of the Cascade Range . It generally flows north through the Pasayten Wilderness and crosses the Canadian-US border.
The following runoff values were measured above Calcite Creek :
- Average: 7.75 m³ / s
- Minimum: 0.28 m³ / s
- Maximum: 114 m³ / s
The highest monthly outflows usually occur in May and June.
West Fork
The West Fork Pasayten River rises on the northern slopes of Slate Peak and flows northwards until it reaches Three Forks, where it and the Middle Fork unite to form the actual Pasayten River. The Rock Creek , which is the third of the "Three Forks", also flows here; the name Three Forks , however, refers less to the triple confluence than to the nearby hut.
Middle fork
The Middle Fork Pasayten River rises at Slate Pass and flows north to Three Forks , where it forms the actual Pasayten River with the West Fork .
East Fork
The East Fork Pasayten River rises at Dollar Watch Pass and flows westward, taking the Big Hidden Lake outflow after a little over half its course, and merging with the mainstream of the Pasayten River just upstream of the border between Canada and the United States .
main power
The actual Pasayten River begins at Three Forks , where the West and Middle Forks combine to form the main stream. The Pasayten River is reinforced by the East Fork before it reaches the border. After crossing the border, the river continues northward; it passes the western boundary of Manning Provincial Park before flowing into the Similkameen River.
