The Passat Blues Band is a Berlin blues rock band and was one of the most famous representatives of the GDR blues scene at the end of the 1970s .

Repertoire and sound

The band's repertoire today consists of covers by Jimi Hendrix , the Allman Brothers and Stevie Ray Vaughan . In addition, there are Bob Dylan songs, which are provided with German lyrics, are re-enacted as authentically as possible (including Autobahn A10 / Highway 61 or Wie ein runder Stein / Like A Rolling Stone).

The special sound of the band is created by using the bass-guitar hybrid . This is a proprietary development protected by patent, on which bass and guitar parts are played in parallel.

history

Passat was founded in 1976 in East Berlin by Werner Hofer and had semi-professional status in the GDR. Initially, the band mainly played titles from well-known representatives of blues rock . Increasingly, own titles with German lyrics and strong rock and jazz influences were included in the repertoire. The line-up changed several times.

The band included:

  • Werner Hofer (guitar, bass)
  • Ryk Boden (guitar, vocals)
  • Wolf-Dieter Mohr (bass)
  • Hagen Dyballa (bass)
  • Hansi Dreßler (bass, vocals)
  • Reinhard Respondek (drums)
  • Frank Käppner (vocals)
  • Bernd Buchholz (vocals, drums)
  • Peter Krokoschinsky (drums, percussion)
  • Igor Flach (harmonica)
  • Udo Jünnemann (vocals, harmonica)
  • Marek Bukowski (piano)

In 1980 Hagen Dyballa switched to the Jonathan Blues Band and Bernd Buchholz to Monokel . Igor Flach , a well-known harmonica player and soloist alongside Bernd Kleinow , came from Jonathan in 1987 and performed with the Passat until 1989. Today's band members played together at Passat back in the 1980s.

In 1991 the band broke up and was re-founded in 2003 by Ryk Boden. Today it is a live band that is especially known in eastern Germany.
