The Patagonia Bay ( Spanish Bahía Patagonia ) is a bay on the northeast coast of Anvers Island in the West Antarctic Palmer Archipelago . It lies between the Gourdon and Thompson Peninsula .
Participants in an Argentine Antarctic expedition named it in 1947 after the Argentine factory ship Patagonia , one of the ships on this research trip . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee translated this designation into English in 1984. In Chile , however, it is now known as Bahía Wunderlich . The namesake here is frigate captain Pablo Wunderlich Widerit, skipper of the 20th Chilean Antarctic expedition (1965–1966).
